Travel Itinerary/Away Games
Journal Entry # 4
May 19, 2016
In the soccer office today, we were doing a large amount of preparation for the away games. I was responsible with creating a flyer for all the games they have. Making sure it was appealing for the people who would see it and making sure the sponsors were represented. In addition, I had to put the travel itinerary for the players and coaches. Including times, locations, and the gear that would be needed for the trip. This required working with Excel spreadsheets, Microsoft word, and searching the internet and complying all the needed information.

New Recruit
Journal Entry # 5
May 23, 2016
Today I was at the baseball field and it was my first experience of having a recruit on campus. I had to first maintain the field and make sure everything was the best that it could be. From there I had to meet with the coaches and plan out the details of the visit. The times that the recruit needed to be at the office, when they need to meet with admissions and so forth. After all this the recruit finally arrived and I was responsible for setting up the field for the workout that the player would go through. Recording the numbers for the various amount of tests that player had to complete. It was a day filled with new experiences. Talking with the parents of the recruit, presenting honest answers when asked, while making sure that they all felt comfortable and knew exactly what they needed to do for the day.

Travel Meals
Journal Entry # 6
May 24, 2016
This day started a little differently then the others in the soccer office. We again focusing on the away games for the upcoming fall season. I had to find a listing of the food options in each area that they would be staying in or commuting to. I had to locate the actual days that they would be traveling, research the towns that they would be in and the restaurants in the area. I was informed of the total amount of money that each player had for each meal, so I had to match up an appropriate menu for the the amount of money they had available. I essentially had to put a variety of choices for each game, and for each meal that they would eat on the road.

Field Preparations
Journal Entry # 7
May 25, 2016
At the baseball field today it was a hectic day. We had two possible recruits coming into the office and I was left on my own to get everything set up on the field in preparation for their arrival. I had to do the necessary field maintenance, which required the use of many different pieces of equipment to make the field look the best it could be. I was also informed of the certain stations that they would be partaking in. I had to make sure each one was set up with all the necessary equipment. When the time came for the recruits to start their workout, I was responsible for making sure they knew what they were doing and how exactly everything would go. It was a day full of hands on experience, and I was constantly multitasking the entire time to make sure everything ran perfectly.

Team Gear
Journal Entry # 8
May 26, 2016
Back in the soccer office they had a new shipment of team gear for the upcoming season. I had to retrieve all the paperwork that I started earlier. With the new gear in it was a day full of inventory. I had to make sure each player got the gear that they ordered and that they weren't missing anything. If there was gear missing I had to record what was missing, the individuals name, and the sizes of what they ordered. From there I had to maintain a log so the coaches could examine it and make the necessary orders from what was missing.

Pitching Mound Reconstruction
Journal Entry # 9
May 27, 2016
Back at the baseball field today I was on my own completely. I was informed that the their would be another recruit coming in for a workout in two days and they wanted the field completely prepped. In addition, they wanted the pitchers mound redone. This required some manual labor. I had to dig the entire thing out and then redo the landing, making sure it was even all the way around. This is because if the landing is uneven the pitcher may risk injury. After that was done, I had to do all the normal day to day preparations that it takes to get the field ready. This required me working with maintenance to get all the necessary equipment and then reporting to the coaches once my tasks were completed so they could inspect to make sure everything was up to standard.

High School Recruits
Journal Entry # 10
May 31, 2016
In the soccer office today I was informed that they were starting the initial recruiting process for players still in high school. I was in charge of creating an email that laid out the initial details. Making it intriguing for the people retrieving it. This took a little bit of designing on my part. Once the designing was done I had to type out a template that would be eventually sent out. Once this was all done I had to utilize the internet to find the possible high school coaches email addresses and record them in a database for future reference. I had to keep a record of every school that I contacted and the players that were of interest to the coaches at Tiffin University.

New Recruit
Journal Entry # 11
June 1, 2016
The last time I was out on the baseball field I was getting the field ready for a possible recruit that was coming to the field. Today was the scheduled visit. This recruit was a pitcher and I was primarily working with the pitching coach. I had to get everything set up and the coach wanted to video tape the bullpen that was going to be thrown. I had to work with the technology that was available and set up everything for the bullpen. Once this was all done, I had to record the speed of each pitch and the location, which we call charting. Once the bullpen had concluded I was in charge of taking the recruit around campus and showing him the buildings on campus, the weight room and explaining him what a daily routine of the players was.

Home Game Flyers
Journal Entry # 13
June 7, 2016
Back in the soccer office today it was filled with time spent working with Excel and Microsoft Word. I was in charge of creating the home game flyers for the upcoming season. The coaches expressed what they wanted the flyers to look like and I was responsible for coming up with the initial draft. I had to include, the two teams playing, times of kickoff, pictures of the mascots, and the promotional offers for each game day. These promotional offers were to be something that would attract the local residents of Tiffin, along with the current students at Tiffin University.

June 9, 2016
Once again in the soccer office, today I was getting the necessary preparations ready for the upcoming summer camps. I had to make contact through email with those that had already signed up for the camp and confirm that they were still coming. Along with this I had to reach out to other high school teams, and players to make sure the desired number of participants were signed up for the camp. Baseball Tournament
Journal # 15
June 10, 2016
Today was a busy day at the baseball field. It was the start of the first summer tournament. I was in charge of getting the field game ready for each game. This required, dragging and watering the field, preparing the batters box and pitchers mound, and lining the field. After this was done I had to coordinate with the tournament director, the umpires, and the coaches of each team to make sure the games got underway smoothly. During the games I was in charge of the scoreboard, and recording the stats for each team and player so the coaches at Tiffin University could look over them after and see if there was a possible recruit that could be a possibility for the future at Tiffin University.

Baseball Tournament
Journal # 16
June 11, 2016
Following a long day, I was back out at the baseball field bright an early. There was three games scheduled for today. I had to prepare the field once again for the games. This required repeating the process from the previous day. Once the teams arrived, I had to coordinate with the coaches, explaining the boundaries of the field, and other essential details. Since we had a more games to be played, I had to inform each team that there would be a time limit in place for each game. This is something that I had to keep track of with the start of each game. There was a lot going on at the field today, handling questions from the coaches, umpires, and parents. The whole time I had to make sure that the field was playable at all times and was in the best possible conditions. During the game there was a specific player that Tiffin was interested in and the coaches wanted to utilize a video camera and a radar gun, to accurately record the numbers of the individual. While doing this I had to keep the scoreboard updated at all times.

Today was the last day of the tournament, which was a big day for the teams participating. The last game of the day would be the championship. This means everyone was extremely excited, and I had to make sure everything was perfect once again. I had to get the field ready between each game, which proved to be a challenge because it rained on and off during the day. This means at times the game had to be suspended so we could make sure the field was playable. I had to coordinate with the coaches and umpires, informing them of the amount of time that was needed for each delay and stick to it. I had to work with a few other workers to ensure everything got ready. It required team work, and lots of hard work. In the end everything ran smoothly and we were able to complete all games as promised.

I had to keep track of every player that was contacted so in the future we could make sure we didn’t send duplicates too. In addition, any responses that we had to be reported to the assistant coach so he could reach out and talk to personally.

June 21, 2016
While I was in the soccer office today it was a much slower day from the ones that have occurred in the past. I was in charge of the new camp apparel that had just been delivered. I had to create an excel spreadsheet of each player that was going to be in attendance, and make sure they were on the appropriate teams that were designated by the coaches. From there I had to use the order forms and make sure that the desired number of t-shirts were given to each team. Making sure that all the sizes were correct and keeping track of any re-orders that may be needed.

Today out at the baseball field I had to work first hand with the pitching coach. We were putting together all of the videos of recruits that have been compiled in the recruiting process for new players. We had to sit down and watch each video and analyze the techniques that were strong and where the player lacked, needing more practice. After we had worked through each video I was in charge of putting them together, in alphabetical order by name. This way the pitching coach could sit down with the new players in the fall and go over the video analysis with them in a timely fashion.

The search for a GA was back in full force today. There was a possible candidate in from New York. Since this was not the first one that the coaches had brought in this summer, we had a game plan already in place. We got through introductions, I was in charge of representing the players and bringing a different perspective to the meeting. After we had gone through the specific things that were being looked for, I sat down and went through some of the workout plans that the GA had put together. Since this is an area that I am knowledgeable in, I asked specific questions that had been prepared beforehand. After the meeting with the coaches was done, I was responsible for showing him the campus and than taking him out to dinner to get a true feel for the individual away from the coaches.

Today was a very quiet day in the baseball office. I was asked to come up with notes from the previous GA interview. After I had completed it, I was to sit down with the coaches and go through what I thought were the strengths and weaknesses of the possible candidate. Outline the possible workout plans that were presented and how they would fit into a student athletes schedule. Obviously I am not in charge of the final decision, I was just in charge of presenting a different point of view, since it is a unique situation, of someone other than a coach sitting down with a possible GA and taking him through the interview process.

Team Gear
Journal Entry # 26
July 11, 2016
Today I was in the soccer office. There was new team gear that had arrived for the fast approaching fall season. I had to make sure the order forms were correct and that the necessary gear had arrived. I had to compile a list of what was correct and inform the head coach of any errors that may have occurred. After this was done, I had to make sure all the gear found its way into the appropriate players bags. It was a day of tedious task, that required a lot of organization and communication with the coaches.

After this was done, I had to make sure all the gear found its way into the appropriate players bags. It was a day of tedious task, that required a lot of organization and communication with the coaches.
Legion Regional Tournament

At the baseball field today it was a busy day. It was the start of the Legion Regional Tournament. We had to make sure everything was in order. That meant preparing the field so it was game ready. This included dragging the infield, painting the lines, and whatever else needed attention too. After this portion was taken care of the next step was coordinating with managers of each team. Making sure they knew the details of the field, what was going to be done before each game, and what was expected of them during the game. Once the national anthem and game got underway, I had to make sure the scoreboard was run correctly. In addition, there were these player profile sheets that were developed by the coaches that had to be filled out on specific players of interest. There is a numbering system that goals along with each players ability and position.

Team Gear and Upcoming Season Prep

Today I was in the soccer office and it was the last day of team gear. Everything had finally arrived, and all the errors were corrected. Everything had to be checked off the list to show that it had arrived and that every player had gotten exactly what they had ordered. This was much easier than the times before because we were not doing the whole team of 84 players just the ones that were missing something from earlier. After this was done, the assistant coach and I had to go out to the field and make sure was in order for the start of preseason. This meant making sure the locker room was in order, all the practice equipment was functioning and in the correct places and anything else the head coach wanted specifically.

I was back at the baseball field again today. Ready for another long day of Legion baseball. We had to prepare the field once again, watering, dragging, and any other repairs to the field from the previous game. Than it was back to the office, watching the game and recording notes on the next round of players that were on the coaches radars. As mentioned before it is all based off a numbering system that the coaches have come up with to organize their thoughts. It is all done through a numbering system of 0-5 (5 being the best). While watching the players you analyse the skills shown on the field and assign a number to them. This was a great way to learn about the recruiting process on a smaller level and how a coach should always be recruiting, this way they are hopefully bringing in the best future players possible.

Today was the last day of the Legion Regional Tournament at the baseball tournament. It was the championship game which would decide which team would move on. Essentially it meant making sure the field was the best it could be. We had to do all the general tasks from the previous day required for getting the field prepared. During the game we had to make sure that field was playable since their was some scattered rain moving in. This mean being able to multi task. Working the scoreboard, charting pitchers and taking notes on the players of interest, while maintaining a proper playing field the whole time. After the game concluded the coaches and I compared notes on the players that we were watching over the course of the tournament. Discussing their weaknesses and strengths. This gave me another opportunity to see what goes on at the collegiate level, and the process of recruiting.

NCAA Compliance

Today I was back in the soccer office and it was a day full of paperwork. For every new player either transfer or incoming freshman, I was in charge of their NCAA compliance forms and making sure they were all filled out. This meant organizing each players paperwork in a single folder that way it was easy to refer back to in the future. There is also a website that had to be completely filled out in a certain way. This way the soccer team itself stays in compliance with the NCAA.

Today was my last day in the soccer office, which was mostly spent out at Paradiso field. I had to make sure all the equipment that had been ordered over the course of the summer was in working condition and was correct. This meant working alongside the assistant coach, he had the inventory sheets, and we had to systematically work through all the gear making sure everything was in order for the fast approaching season. After we had everything together we had to move all the team apparel that we had put together in the bags out to the locker room. The soccer coach had the lockers that each player was assigned to and we had to make sure that each player got exactly what they were supposed to.

Today was the big tournament out at the baseball field. It was the Buckeye elite tournament for ages 16-18. We had to get the field ready for the five games that were scheduled for the day. This meant dragging, the infield, cutting the grass, watering the dirt, and painting the lines on the field. After this was all done, I had to meet with each coach individually making sure that I got a roster from each team. This way we could follow the specific players throughout the day. There were some that were already on the coaches radar that needed to be watched and tracked throughout the day and others that no one knew about. Today I was in charge of tracking the position players and more specifically the hitters. This meant analyzing the swings and fundamentals that they have and projecting what they could be. This way the coaches had a simple detailed list that could be reviewed afterward to decide if it was a good idea to pursue a certain player according to the teams needs.

Today was the second day of the tournament. So in the morning it was a repeat of the day before getting the field in playing condition. After getting the field ready for the next five games it was back to the office organizing the player profile sheets from the day before and preparing the ones that were going to be used today. This meant talking to the new coaches about players that they thought were ones to watch. Since yesterday focus was on hitters, today I was assigned to tracking the pitchers. This mean using the radar gun to track their pitch speeds. Analyzing their pitching techniques and simply working with the pitching coach, assisting in recording the stats and notes so they could be referred to in the future. Since there are not as many pitchers in a game as their is hitters it is a little easier to track which ones have more talent than the others.

This was the last day of the baseball tournament. This meant that in the morning it was once again back to preparing the field. Talking with the coaches again, building a relationship right off the bat and helping to show that as a University we are prepared and have something to offer these young athletes. Being an example to the kids because from the beginning they look up to those that in their eyes have already made it in the college world. During the games it was back to compiling the player profiles for the new teams and their top prospects. After the games had concluded, it took some extensive work to get the field repaired from the entire weekend of games. fifteen games in three days to be exact. Once the field was completely repaired, it was back to the office to put the player profiles in an order that marked which players should be pursued first, showing that they were a priority.
